Hamas is pushing for a cease-fire
Beleaguered Hamas leaders on Sunday signaled their willingness to reach a cease-fire with Israel, sources close to Hamas said.
The sources said Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh sent urgent messages to the leaders of Egypt, Jordan, Qatar and Saudi Arabia urging them to work toward ending the IDF military operations in the Gaza Strip.
The sources told The Jerusalem Post that Haniyeh and other Hamas leaders also appealed to Turkey to intervene and convince Israel to halt its offensive.
Hamas’s apparent readiness to reach a cease-fire with Israel is seen by some Palestinians as evidence of the Islamist movement’s concern that it may lose control over the Gaza Strip should the military operations continue.

IDF pulls out Gaza troops, Hamas declares ‘victory’
The Israel Defense Forces pulled its ground troops out of the Gaza Strip early Monday, and Hamas seized the pullout to declare “victory” in the intensive fighting that has killed more than 100 people in recent days.
The pullback followed days of sequential fighting that drew an appeal from Washington to end violence and rescue peace talks with the Palestinians.

Hervorhebungen von mir: Hamas appeliert an die arabischen Staaten und die Tuerkei. Wer sich aber wirklich fuer sie verwendet, sind die USA… Ein wiederkehrendes Muster. Wer nun erwartet, dass die Islamisten ihren Hass auf Amerika irgendwie modifizieren, ist naiv. Gerade, dass die USA erreichen, was die arabischen Staaten nicht schaffen (wollen), ist wieder eine narzisstische Kraenkung, die zu weiterem Hass anstachelt.

This week, the prime minister came under heavy US pressure to break off the operation. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice threatened to call off her visit which was scheduled for Tuesday, March 4 and lay the blame on Israel for the breakdown of peace talks with the Palestinians, although Mahmoud Abbas formally suspended all contacts with Israel until its army ended its Gaza incursion. She accused Israel of undermining the Bush administration’s entire Middle East strategy by its stepped-up Gaza offensive.
